danny morgan was a boy who lived on a ranch.
his father, brick morgan, owned the ranch.
they lived at a time when there were many indians.
one day, danny and his father rode up a mountain trail.
danny talked excitedly.
the ride to lookout point was fun for danny because it was near an indian
camp.
"father, after we ride to the point, let's go over to the indian camp,"
danny said eagerly.
"no, danny.
i"m afraid there won"t be time today," brick morgan answered.
danny liked indians.
all the way up the trail, he hoped he would meet some indian boys on
their spotted ponies.
"look!
there's golden boy!" danny said suddenly.
he pointed to a tiny speck racing across the fields.
danny's heart pounded.
the sight of golden boy always excited him.
the big horse was leader of the morgan herd of horses.
"when will you go after the horses?" asked danny, hoping that he could go
with his father and the cowboys on the spring roundup.
"we start next week," brick morgan answered.
"i wish i could take you along, partner, but someone has to stay at home
to feed the animals."
danny felt sad that he could not go along.
"be a good boy," his father said.
"i may have a surprise for you when i come back."
"a colt?
will it be a colt, father?"
"it wouldn"t be a surprise if i told you," his father laughed.
weeks passed before the roundup was over.
when brick morgan returned home, danny ran to meet him and jumped into his
father's strong arms.
